Proposal for BALTIC SPEED MARATHON

Campaign CATCH A FERRY

Two STENA LINE sea ferries STENA FLAVIA and SCOTTISH VIKING leave Ventspils Port at 10:00 in the morning five times a week in order to reach the nearest Swedish city of Nynashamn in 8.5 hours. The maximum speed of both ferries is 24 knots, the distance of 168 nautical miles is travelled at an average speed of 19.8 knots.

A stabilized, wind-driven hydrofoil trimaran with significantly increased speed, safety and comfort level has been developed in Latvia. Trimaran is suitable for both race and family tourism and can be cruised by an average sailor. Sketch drawings of the entire range of the most sought-after sizes in the range of 22-30 feet frames are worked out. In the rest of the world, wind-powered hydrofoils are still being built for extreme sports and available for high skilled and professional crew only. The initial 25 feet stabilized Trimaran Catri 25 SC (Sport Cruiser) is the first design for production at designed maximum speed up to 30 knots and with a low serial product price.

The campaign CATCH A FERRY is planned to be organized as a marathon speed race in the sea in three stages at a predicted favourable wind strength and direction for a distance of 198 nautical miles between points A and B in Nynashamn and Ventspils. The race takes place in parallel with the STENA LINE ferry course. The first race of the participant group "a" starts in Nynashamn that to finish in Ventspils. After a day of rest, both groups of participants "a + b" starts in Ventspils that to finish in Nynashamn. After a rest day group "b", which returns to Ventspils, starts for the latest third course.

                                                                        COURSE SCHEME

All the parties involved would benefit from organizing the first marathon race in the Baltic Sea. The fastest yachts with the company logo on the sails have an outstanding advertising potential. The two ferry companies that will acquire the latest CATRI trimaran models to market their vehicles will be a particularly economically justifiable purchase, as these fast-paced hydrofoils trimarans are the first ones to be used for further offshore trips and available for serial product prices. It will be an excellent advertisement for both trimaran producers and and owners as well as for water sports and tourism.

                                                              STENA LINE BALTIC RACE 2020

The event is planned to be realized in August 2020. After evaluating the result, it will be possible to decide on the organization of the next race competitions to become an annual STENA LINE AB and TALLINK & SILJA LINE sailing sporting events across the Baltic Sea. There will also be countries that will support such a measure. The campaign is organized with the main objective of demonstrating the unique quality of stabilized trimarans and gaining a niche in the global market, as well as expanding the use of wind energy in the recreational fleet and promoting research into the use of green energy in water transport.
